Fitting 4’ X 8’ plywood and 5’ X 5’ panels of Baltic birch into a vehicle is a challenging task for a woodworker.  Vertical panel saws have played an essential role in home centers and lumberyards they allow an operator to cut oversized panels into smaller sizes that are easier to transport.

Cutting panels with a vertical panel allow for a one-person operation from the start of the cutting process to the end.  Making a cut on a vertical panel saw includes:

• Loading the panel into the frame of the machine and pushing it on the rollers
• Aligning rulers and setting the cut length that is requested and moving the panel accordingly
• Unloosening the thumbscrews on saw carriage after turning the motor on
• Pushing down on the saw carriage and letting gravity take control as the cut is made
• Turning the motor off and removing the cut panels

The vertical cutting position of pulling the saw carriage to the ground on a vertical panel saw allows for cutting panels without worrying about an inaccurate cut or the panel shifting during the cut. Home centers and lumber yards can have the assurance that their employees will not get their fingers too close to a rotating circular saw blade spinning at over 5,000 revolutions per minute. The heavily guarded saw blade virtually eliminates operator contact with the blade.
